Here's the deal

On February 4, 2012 Wesley was in a skiing accident and broke his neck. He is 16 years old and is planning to graduate high school this year. There are not many 16 year old boys as amazing as he is. He is kind, thoughtful, and good looking.to date on his progress. I will make sure Wesley gets to read every comment this blog receives. My siblings and I will try to keep this blog current.

Monday-Wednesday Updates

Well, I suppose it is time for an update. I've been a bit busy lately... getting the house organized after being gone for 3 weeks is no easy task. I'm kidding. It was easy because Ben did great at keeping things under control whilst I was away.

Here is your 'Random Ryanne Fact'... I can't really think of one. That oyster deal was pretty much it. There really isn't anything else random about me. That is ok though, because everyone reading this blog is wanting updates on my little brother and not on me. In fact, I am sure most will skip over this paragraph.

On Monday, it was nice for Wes to get back into routine after his little Sunday break, even though his routine is a lot of work. Wesley has been working so hard with his therapy. His shoulders and neck are really tight and sore, but he is working so hard that they will be strong soon.

Wesley's appetite is slowly returning. He still dislikes the hospital food quite a bit but he gets some cravings and my parents are more than happy to oblige to those cravings because he needs to eat. On Monday he wanted some KFC, luckily, there a place near by and he got his fried chicken. My aunt and uncle brought him dinner on Monday night and it was fun for him to eat some good food and have nice visitors.

Tuesday
A neurosurgeon, Dr. Porter, came into Wesley's room at 7:00AM. Last week my dad had given him a copy of all of Wesley's scans and x-rays before and after surgery. Dr. Porter confirmed something we already knew. The doctor who did the surgery, Dr. Speth, did an amazing job. No one cold have done a better job. We were tremendously blessed to have such a skilled surgeon in Bozeman, MT. Our family considers that a miracle.

Barrows also had a football player from the AZ Cardinals come by and visit Wesley and another patient, Dylan. His name was Lyle Sendlein and he brought hats and helmets for the boys. It was a nice break in their day and they enjoyed the visit.

Later on Tuesday, my sister, Brittnee, came by with her children and some dinner. Wes loves having his nieces and nephews near by. They are always fun.

Tuesday night was pretty tough. Wesley had a lot of itches and so my parents took turns helping him itch his face. Finally, around 3:30AM he settled down and fell asleep.

Wednesday

Wesley's seminary class called at 7:30 AM. Seminary is a church class that high schoolers attend Monday through Friday every morning before school. He was able to speak with everyone in his class. This was the highlight of Wesley's day. He misses Montana and his friends there.

My sister-in-law, Ashley, came to visit with her two boys and Brittnee's little 2 year old. Wes had fun chasing the two boys in his wheel chair. It is amazing how much joy can come into his life when these two little boys are around. They love him no matter what.

Wes did a fantastic job in rehab today. All the therapists were surprised at the progress he made. Wes is gaining strength and endurance quickly.

My parents purchased a small video camera as well on Wednesday so hopefully we get some more videos up on here. Wesley will be able to show off for everyone.

Overall, Wesley is doing well. He is a great patient and the nurses enjoy having him. He is cheerful and tries his best to be positive.

  3. And Ryanne, your "Random Ryanne Fact" could be that you know the proper usage of "whilst" and you aren't afraid to show it! BTW, when are you coming back so I can meet you? I was so sad I missed you by less than a day...
